Meeting Plan for the Snow Badge
Want to learn about snow? Check out the Snow Badge offered by Frontier Girls and Quest Clubs. Katie Lundquist of Frontier Girls Troop #159 sent us this great meeting plan to help teach the badge to a variety of age levels and includes some great crafts and games.
Ideas include: Dress-for-the-weather relay/game; make tied fleece blankets for charity; provide snowflake coloring pages or a “make-your-own-snowflake” craft area. (10 min)(Eagle/Level 4 requirement 2 or optional requirement 18)
Circle Time“Talking” portion of the badge requirements. (10 min) Suggestions include:
- Read a picture book. We suggest Snowflake Bentley by Jacqueline Briggs Martin (Penguin/Preschool requirements 1-2; Otter\Level 1 requirement 2; Dolphin/Level 2 requirement 1-2; Butterfly requirement 1-2; optional requirement 4)
- Learn a song or poem about snow. There are songs included in the first helpful link below. (optional requirement 8)
- Learn safety tips for winter travel. (optional requirement 17)
- Decorate a dessert
- Make Borax crystals or rock candy
- Make paper snowflakes
- Create an “avalanche”
- Sketch snowflakes
(10 min each station) (Otter/Level 1 requirement 1; optional requirements 5, 9, 10, 11)
Share artwork, and make plans for field trip/activity (5 min)When the field trip is complete, you may be done with optional requirements 6, 7 or 15 depending on what you choose.
